Futurity
The Futurity Stakes will be open only to puppies from litters nominated and bred by members of the West Highland White Terrier Club of America, or members of the WHWTCA recognized regional clubs, co-owners included. A list of WHWTCA recognized regional clubs can be found on the club’s website (www.westieclubamerica.com/regclubs) and are also listed on the futurity registration form.
Step 1: Nominate the Litter
Official futurity forms for nominating a bitch, prior to whelping, or after whelping, can be downloaded from the West Highland White Terrier Club of America website or may be requested from the futurity chairperson.
You must nominate the litter either before whelping or within 30 days of the date of whelping. The fee is higher for litters nominated after whelping.

Step 2: Nominate the Individual Puppy
The puppy must be nominated before he/she is six (6) months of age.
Nominations are open to puppies whelped within the dates that are outlined below:
For showing in Futurity in the year 2009 only
Senior Puppy:
whelped between 3/1/08 and 5/31/08
Intermediate Puppy:
whelped between 6/1/08 and 8/31/08
Junior Puppy:
whelped between 9/1/08 and 11/30/08
Puppy:
whelped between 12/1/08 and 2/28/09
For showing in Futurity in the year 2010 ONLY
Senior Puppy:
whelped between the 2009 cut-off date and 6/30/09
Intermediate Puppy:
whelped between 7/1/09 and 9/30/09
Junior Puppy:
whelped between 10/1/09 and 12/31/09
Puppy:
whelped between 1/1/10 and 3/31/10 year of futurity
For showing in Futurity in the year 2011 and beyond
Senior Puppy:
whelped between 4/1 and 6/30 year preceding futurity
Intermediate Puppy:
whelped between 7/1 and 9/30 year preceding futurity
Junior Puppy:
whelped between 10/1 and 12/31 the year preceding futurity
Puppy:
whelped between 1/1 and 3/31 year of futurity
You must complete the individual puppy nomination form, which can be downloaded from the West Highland White Terrier Club of America website or may be requested from the futurity chairperson.
Note: due to the fluctuation of show dates, it is possible that puppies may be older than 18 months on the day of the futurity. This difference distinguishes FUTURITY from sweepstakes.
Fee to register a single puppy from a nominate litter:
Individual enrollment of puppy (must be made before 6 months of age)

Step 3: Enter the Show
So your puppy (who was from a nominated litter) has been nominated for the futurity. Prior to the futurity, you will receive information (a premium list). You must enter the puppy in the futurity, just like any other conformation competition.
Maturity
The Maturity is for Westies that were eligible to be shown in the previous year’s Futurity. A Maturity provides the opportunity to see how last year’s puppies matured. Westies shown in the Maturity may – or may not – be finished champions.
