RULES CONCERNING OBEDIENCE AWARDS

The purpose of the four Annual Obedience Awards is to encourage West Highland White Terrier participation and excellence in obedience trials. (Prior to 2005 competition year, points were cumulative and may include multiple dogs. This rule was changed for the 2006 awards to consider dogs indivdiually.)

  • The four awards distinguish between the member who campaigns his Westies in Obedience (All Scores) and the member who primarily participates in the "classes" to earn titles (Novice Legs, Open Legs, Utility (UD only) Legs).
  • In each category, the member's Westie who earns the greatest total number of Annual Obedience Award Points in a particular calendar year earns the award for that year.
  • Annual Obedience Award Points are calculated by subracting 170 from each AKC qualifying score. A perfect obedience score is 200, with 170 qualifying (as long as more than half the available points were earned in each exercise). Subtract 170 from the qualifying score to produce a fair point system for comparing members' level of participation and level of excellence.
  • With the exception of Rules 3-7, those rules set forth concerning all Annual Awards apply equally in Obedience Awards. For the Annual Performance Awards, points only accrue to an individual dog rather than to multiple dogs owned by the same individual or individuals.
Each interested member must submit his/her own trial record in the form of an AKC Dog Report obtainable from the AKC web site for $8. The Performance Committee will verify the top five members results. Members can submit their results by email or those without Web access can pay the Club $8 per dog to have their data available to the awards committee. These records must be submitted to the Chairman of the Performance Committee (Sil Sanders, 33101 44th Ave. NW, Stanwood, WA 98292 or Sil@WestiesNW.com) or the designated Annual Awards Chairperson.
