AWARD RULES
Rules Concerning All Annual Awards
- All members (including Life) of the WHWTCA are eligible to compete. Points toward all awards will be calculated from that date an applicant's dues are recorded by the Treasurer.
- The competition period encompasses those American Kennel Club licensed shows/trials held between January 1 and December 31, inclusive, of any given year. Those results published in the American Kennel Club Awards will be the sole authority used in tabulating.
- Competition is required for all wins. In determining competition, all dogs and/or bitches must defeat another within its own sex which is owned by some other person(s). In the case of ties for any annual award, the number of dogs or bitches defeated will determine the winner. If there is no competition within the classes, Best of Winners and Reserve Winners will be deemed to be competition.
- (a) To qualify for awards in all categories, a minimum of three (3) wins must be recorded within the competition period.
(b) To qualify for category 11, the dog or bitch must be entered in best of breed competition or defeat a specials entry. Example: A class animal awarded Best of Opposite Sex will receive a qualifying point only if a specials entry is defeated. Winners Dog and Winners Bitch will be deemed to be competition.
- (a) Dogs and bitches eligible for categories 12, 13, 16, and 17 are restricted to all those where the ownership is identical to the person(s) identified as the breeder(s) of record.
(b) Dogs and bitches eligible for categories 14, 15, 18, and 19 are restricted to where the ownership may include, but is not restricted to, at least one of the breeder(s) of record.
- It shall be necessary for members competing for the awards in categories 16, 17, 18, and 19 to present proof of qualifications. Such proof shall be presented on a form obtained from the Chairman of the Evaluation Committee. This form will include the name of the dog/bitch competing for the award, the name(s) of the breeder(s) of record, the name(s) of the owner(s) of record, the name and date of the shows at which the dog/bitch qualified. The form must be returned to the Chairman of the Evaluation Committee not later than April 15th of the year following the specific competition period. The members' signature on the form will subject that person to all aspects of the Code of Ethics of the WHWTCA.
- Points will be credited on those dogs registered in the name of each member as set forth on the Club's rolls unless the Chairman of the Evaluation Committee is notified in writing to the contrary.
Example: A married woman whose membership is recorded under her husband's given name but whose dogs are registered under her given name must send notification that she - Mrs. Thomas A. Smith - is also Susan B. Smith.
- Where dogs are registered in co-ownership, all owners must be members of the Club for credit to be awarded. Under no condition will any credit be awarded to only one of the owners. In tabulating show results, separate records will be maintained for each co-ownership involving Club members. Example: John Smith co-owns dogs with William Brown, Michael Evans, and David Jones. Only Mr. Jones is not a club member. Separate records will be kept in the name of Smith-Brown and Smith-Evans. No credit is given on wins of dogs owned by Smith-Jones.
- Where dogs are owned by a kennel, credit will be given only if all owners of the kennel are Club members. Further, it is the responsibility of the owners to notify the Chairman of the Evaluation Committee in writing of the identities of the kennel owners.
- (a) No credits shall be retroactive in application.
(b) Should a lapsed membership be reinstated, wins achieved during the period that the membership was considered lapsed will not be credited.
(c) Should any additional party to a co-ownership join the Club, wins for the dogs co-owned will be tabulated from the date of membership forward.
- It is the members' responsibility to notify the Chairman of the Evaluation Committee of errors occurring in published show results as well as to notify the Show Records Department of AKC, requesting that a correction be printed. The records of the Evaluation Committee will be corrected only upon such publication. In the case of errors in the name of either the owner or the dog, the Chairman of the Evaluation Committee alone shall be notified.
- In the event the committee has an unresolved interpretation of the rules, authority to make a decision will revert to the Board.
- This statement of policy, as revised, is effective with the 1996 competition year.
